Thanksgiving 2021 Update!

Dove Creek School Community,

Once again I would like to begin by saying thanks to our community for supporting our schools, staff, and kids. Passing the mill levy override extension was a huge commitment by our community and it shows that we are in support of continuing to provide the best possible education to our students. With the money from the mill levy extension we will assess all staff salaries to make sure all positions are competitive in the community and with neighboring schools, continue purchasing updated curriculum for our classes, and continue to improve our district to provide the greatest educational opportunity possible for all students.

To stay with the Thanksgiving theme, I am also thankful for the support received for the new elementary school and all the input that was received as we went through the process for a bond. We will continue the process of obtaining a bond for a new elementary school which will be voted on in November of 2022. We have a high level design for the new elementary with the determined location and we know what it will cost to build. Much of the work has already been completed to reach our goal of a new elementary school. The next steps in the process will be to work with the state and submit a BEST grant application. I have submitted our Notice of Intent with the state and the application work can begin with the due date February 4, 2022. The focus of the application will be for a new elementary school, and demolishing the old elementary school.

Once the outcome of the BEST grant application has been determined we will move on to the bond committee planning and working to pass a bond on November 8, 2022. Mrs. Lorraine Hancock did a great job for the committee for the bond this year, but the committee must have additional members that are willing to knock on doors, make phone calls, and discuss the need to vote YES on next year's ballot question. I look forward to working together to get a building built for our elementary students that has the best safety and security while the educational operations are second to none.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, and be safe in your travels. Be thankful for the ones around you and the community we live in. There have been some rough times for many in the community this fall and our thoughts are with you during these holidays. Enjoy your time with the ones around you.
