November 2023 HS/MS Principals Report
I hope everyone has been enjoying the nice fall weather so far. Thanksgiving is right around the corner and students and staff have been super busy in the classrooms. It’s always nice to see how much learning is taking place when I walk up and down the hall.
We have had a lot of activities happening lately at DCHS/MS. Our FFA chapter sent 8 students to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. I went along as the male sponsor and Devon Lane, our Agriculture teacher also went. This was my first time experiencing this event. There were 70,000 FFA students in attendance. To see this event in person was truly unbelievable. Every student is required to wear their official dress and it was hard at times to find our Dove Creek students as they would get lost in all the blue corduroy FFA jackets. We went on tours and listened to remarkable speakers and I would argue that our students learned more about life in the 4 days that we were there than they might have learned in a month. It was quite the field trip and one that I wish everyone would get to experience. Thank you to Mrs. Lane and the Dove Creek FFA students for asking me to go. I had a blast.
Our high school football and volleyball teams are now competing in the state playoff brackets. The girls won the regional tournament and are heading to state and the boys won their first-round playoff game. They both have had great regular seasons and I want to wish them good luck as they continue to advance in the post-season.
Great Job!!.... Make sure to congratulate our 2023/24 sophomore students or any of our teachers. Last year, as freshmen, they took the 9th-grade PSAT test, and out of all the districts in the state, large and small, our 9th-grade PSAT Math ranked 8th overall. 74% of our 2022 freshmen met or exceeded expectations for 2023! This is a huge accomplishment for our staff and shows that the hard work everyone is doing is paying off.
I am very proud of the accomplishments and awesome things that go on every single day in our district. We really do have a lot to be thankful for. Keep up the good work everyone.
